Dutch Landing

In 1638, Dutch established the first settlement on the island till 1658.  During their settlement, they introduced sugar cane and deer in Mauritius.

A second settlement took place from 1664 to 1710.  During that period Mauritius became an important  port of call for vessels proceeding to East Indies.
