 Beetle Cratopus striga:  It is a stout-bodied black insect with a narrow pure white band of scales across the base of the thickened forewings.

Beetle Cratopus armatus:  It is dark with a narrow stripe of orange scales running laterally along the edges of the elytra.

Cratopus chrysochlorus:  It has a narrow median stripe of white scales on the head, a  dark thorax and elytra covered with scales having a striking blue-green-gold iridescence.

Cratopus nigrogranatus:  It has an elongated body with brilliant green and coppery scales with shiny black granules between them.

This is the largest surviving Mauritian snail and it is quite common in most areas of the remaining forest.

This is the largest of the Mauritian endemic carnivorous snails.

This rare endemic snail has the smallest range of any Mauritian snail.

 

 

G E C K O S

 

 

This is the largest of all Phelsuma geckos.  This day gecko has a very attractive olive colour and eyes slit pupils.

 

This night gecko has brown  beige and white banding and stippling.  It runs with its tail high up in the air or bent over its back.

 

This night gecko is smaller in size.  

 

This beautiful day gecko is now extinct.  It was a heavily multi-coloured gecko, predominantly green, with red blue and yellow markings.
